Since Kuruman was our first South African OST project, it was also a very important learning experience in how to implement the simple idea to a community who is desperate to participate and to get started. In our eagerness, we did not realise that the size of the Kuruman area was simply too big for our small OST office to manage. 28,000 Square kilometers and 380,000  people, is simply too big to start as a first OST project. We had to learn the hard way and face our disappointments. We had to find a smaller town to show off as a proof of concept. We have therefore decided to put this OST project on pause, until we are ready to resume with the proper support structures and everything we have learnt in the past 12 months. 

 

 

GREAT INTEREST in OST

What we did achieve in Kuruman, was to learn very important lessons of what NOT to do, when launching OST. In the process we laid a solid foundation and keen interest among the people across the board. The OST initiative was accepted and embraced with great enthusiasm by many sectors of the community, such as business people, traditional leaders, religious leaders, pastors, teachers, military veterans, ordinary people, and farmers. Everywhere we went, people were lining up to join as members.
